Hayate Liger by Pork-Cow Hayate Liger by Pork-Cow
An awesome looking model, but not really a fun one to build... Seems that way with a lot of later generation Zoids.

By not fun, do you mean a lot of that's pre-assembled? I recall hearing something along those lines, and I recently built a Whitz Wolf, and it did seem to have 'less' compared to even, say, a Command Wolf.

It looks awesome though, no doubt about that.

Yeah, the whole body is pre-assembled. All you do is put the armour, weapons and whatnot on.

Also there are quite a few loose parts and parts that refused to go on easily. It's like with all these "new" Zoids, Tomy were just trying to churn out as many models as possible in a short amount of time, sacrificing quality for quantity.

So yeah, just in general, the fact that it was mostly pre-assembled and the frustration from poorly fitting parts made it a build that wasn't all that fun.

I guess that explains a bit why the Tomy line was discontinued, and the Kotobukiya HMM series has taken the ball so far as the model kits go.

I had been contemplating getting ahold of more recent Tomy kits, like Sword Wolf (which is just a Whitz with some additional armaments), Soul Tiger, and Whitz Tiger, but I admit the general simplicity of the Whitz Wolf, and the fact that others released around that time were actually similarly easy, or even easier, sort of put me out to that idea. I'll wait and see if they make an HMM version of those instead.

If they do make HMMs of those Zoids, that'll be years away.

It seems Kotobukiya are going through the anime generations. They started off with Chaotic Century era Zoids like Shield Liger, Blade Liger and Geno Saurer etc. Now they're currently in New Century era, like Liger Zero and it's CAS systems, Brads Command Wolf, Jamie's Pteras, Shadow Fox etc.

If they are going through the generations, they'll have to finish off New Century, and then go through Fuzors era Zoids like Zero Phoenix or Energy Liger before they get to Genesis era Zoids like the ones you want.

Yeah, well, they started making NCZ ones before finishing Chaotic Century. And they're actually almost "done" with the Chaotic Century ones. We're missing a few things like a Gustav (which would be a really boring HMM, to be honest), and possibly a few others.

And really, thinking about it, they've done a lot of the New Century stuff at this point, too, and the stuff they haven't done yet has been announced. (Berserk Fury, Harry's Dark Horn, and the Shadow Fox have all been announced in some capacity.)

So... technically they could start doing Fuzors generation stuff. But... for some reason, I don't really see them doing that. Fuzors had a lot of Zoids that wouldn't really work that well in the HMM format. The "Blox" components really wouldn't work that well. But then again, I guess I didn't expect the HMM format would work at all, considering I thought the original Tomy/Hasbro Zoids were super detailed already.

Of course, I'm not saying that there aren't great Zoids for the HMM format, like, as you said, Energy Liger. Zero Phoenix/Zero Falcon could also work, and I figure if we see an HMM Konig Wolf, it would appear in the Fuzors-generation kits.

I will say, though, due to my limited space at this time, I'm actually only going to be getting very specific kits should they be released, aside from the Shield Liger Van, Ultrasaurus D-Style, and Liger Zero Jager I already have ordered. I'll only be buying Liger Zero Panzer, Shadow Fox, Konig Wolf, and Berserk Fury when those see release.
